I was at the Gaisano Mall of Davao 9:30 am today and was waiting for the mall to open together with a lot of people. I was standing there with my headphones on, when i noticed that there was this one guy standing in the middle of everyone and mouthing words.. but i couldn't hear what he was saying so i removed my headset and listened. He was sharing his experience of His life without Christ in his early childhood days.. of who empty he was back then, how alone he was, and misunderstood. He suffered from a medical condition and was told that he would not live beyond 1989, but as he said "Praise God, it's 2010 and I'm still alive". Then he called out this young guy, he was a pastor and began sharing the Word to everyone; some were listening while others were ignoring, but he kept on talking about the Gospel until he was about to end and invited people to raise their hands for those who wants to receive Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.. some raised there hands.. on by one.. little by little.. and then there was a young guy, around my age, who caught my attention while raising his hand, at first he was hesitating, but later on he raised his hands up high. He was the third person who raised their hands in response to the Pastor's challenge. And then the prayer began, and I continued to listen. The prayer ended just right before the mall let the people enter, to my astonishment, i saw this guy approach the pastor and they talked, and he said he wanted to know Christ more. He was then invited to their gathering for tomorrow, and God knows how lovely his smile was, i could feel that he found something that has been missing his whole life.. and I know the feeling. ;]

I was touched with what I saw, even among the 50 people who were there, it was a sight to see a soul fetched and saved. I was thinking, if these people did not came here, swallowed their pride, and began preaching even if a little listened, where would this one soul be? God truly works in miraculous and unfathomable ways..

People of today has found it very easy to say thank you to everyone and every people, and sometimes by doing so, we forgot how to say it right, or how to do it right. Thank you is a simple phrase of gratitude or expression of joy over something given to you or something someone did for you.. Thank you is something we say to people not only because we have to, but surely because we want to.

In receiving gifts and even greetings during our birthdays or other celebrations, we say thank you, yes, to everyone, but do we say it right? do we say it personally? or do we do it in generic? Thank you is not supposedly something we say to everyone.. its something that is personal, something that needs to be said from one to another, not from one person to everyone.. its just wrong..

The greatest payback we can give to those who gave us something or did something for us i think is not a simple thank you, not a thank you to everyone.. but i think that the greatest payback we can offer those people is our personalized smile and personalized thank you.. it doesnt have to be in person, you can even make a simple note or letter.. as long as it is personal.. because things like these would not feel right and would not be right if not done with a personal touch from you and to the person who deserves that thanks.

If that person thought of giving you something that made you smile, or doing something for you that made you smile, don't you think it would be fair for you to give something back to make them smile? :] think about it..

Progeria

Pogeria ("progeros" meaning 'prematurely old' ) is a genetic disease also known as "Hutchinson–Gilford progeria syndrome", "Hutchinson–Gilford syndrome", and "Progeria syndrome". This is a genetic disorder that is extremely rare having an incidence rate of one per eight million live births with signs and symptoms commonly seen in the aspects of aging are manifested at an early age. Those diagnosed with are only given about thirteen years.

Disease Progression..

The earliest symptoms of Progeria includes:

- Failure to thrive

- Localized scleroderma-like skin condition.

As a child ages past infancy, additional conditions become apparent:

- Limited growth

- Alopecia

- Distinctive appearance (small face and jaw, pinched nose)

Later, the condition causes:

- Wrinkled skin

- Atherosclerosis

- Cardiovascular problems

There are 100 Medical Records of this Genetic condition.. around 40-50 cases are known all over the world.. There is even one family in India where his five children are suffering from Progeria.. There is no cure .. and no treatment.. only precautionary measures to avoid complications in the cardiovascular..

Why Pharmacists in Philippines are Paid Less than the Amount WE Deserve

Why are Pharmacists paid less? Have you asked that yourself? Do you know why? I think I do..

Pharmacists, though we studied for four or even five years, though we strived hard, very hard to pass the board exams, though we know that our knowledge on drugs and medications are far less compensated than how it should be, we can blame no one but ourselves..

We simply get paid less because we act less.. we act less of a professional.. we act less as a pharmacists.. we become less.. look for example the setting in our community.. what do pharmacists do? we get the cash give the meds. pathetic, we become less of who we are, we simply become sellers and not primary health care practitioners. We should care for the patients and for the drugs, not merely of the cash and profit! that is where we become less and that is why we are paid less.

As what I see and what I believe in, it is us that sets the level of our integrity in compensation, I hope that someday the "licensiadong tindera/o" image would come to fade and let the ideal pharmacist come to practice.

GRADUATE SCHOOL; M.S. in Pharmacy

I went to school [University of the Immaculate Conception] last friday with my girlfriend.. we requested for her credentials and i got mine as well.. then we went to the our Dean, Dean of Pharmacy, S. Corazon Loqeullano for a signature for the request and a visit as well.. as we talked and talked random stuff about our lives as graduate and for preparing for the board exams, she suddenly told me, "Kenny, why don't you enroll for Masters in Pharmacy? tuo lang jud sako, dili jud ka magmahay [believe in what i say and you'll never regret it!].." then those words struck me there and then and i told myself.. "why the hell not? :D"

So here I am again.. school boy xD

Origins of Father's Day

Sonora Dodd of Washington was listening to a Mother's day sermon in 1909 and she thought that if we could honor our mothers for a day, what about our fathers?, specially her father, William Smart who was a Civil War veteran and was widowed when her wife died giving birth to their sixth child, he was then left to raise the six children all by himself.

Sonora saw the sarifices of his father by making all parental sacrifices needed to raise all six of them, in her eyes this was an act of a courageous, selfless, and a loving act that needs to be heard and honored.

Mr. William Smart, the father of Sonora was born in the month of June, so Sonora chose to have the special day for fathers on the 19th of June in Spokane, Washington, and this was the first ever celebration of FATHER'S DAY.

The idea was then supported by President Calvin Coolidge if having a national Father's Day. Then President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclaimation declaring the 3rd Sunday of the month of June as a Father's Day. celebration. :]

Burn Your Fats Away in a Single Dose; Beta 3 Adrenergic Receptor Agonist

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally, with more than 1 billion adults overweight - at least 300 million of them clinically obese - and is a major contributor to the global burden of chronic disease and disability.

With this problem, lots and lots of people are in risk of major diseases since obesity pose a major risk for chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and stroke, and certain forms of cancer.

In the world of Pharmaceutics, a wonderful discovery has been made, enough with those crappy lies of slimming teas, slimming pills, and all the slimming bullsh*t they sell, which in fact all these "drugs" do is empty your stomach because generally these are laxatives, some are claiming in l-carnitine to burn fats, but no it doesn't work that simple since l-carnitine only "helps" in burning fats thus leaving the main thing to do on you, to exercise.. yet today we are in the verge to see the future.. a new drug that does not require any exercise or strenuous activities, all you have to do is to take the drug and there it goes.

My interest is really all out for this discovery since it is supported by scientific theories and facts. The drug that I am talking about is the Beta-3 Adrenergic Agonist, which was originally for the relaxation of the urinary gall bladder since there is a predominant expression of beta-3 AR in human bladder but then it was discovered to have uses beyond it.

Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors, if agonized can simultaneously increase lipolysis (a process of breaking down fats), fat oxidation, energy expenditure, and insulin, or in other words it BURNS YOUR STINKING FATS without even doing anything at all and at a single dose. :)

This innovation is projected to be the top selling drug in 10 years time. sadly its still under clinical trials.. :)

My Brother's Shot got Published in a Magazine

My brother has been into photography for a year now, he has gone from Nikon D40 to Nikon D90.

Just recently he tagged me on Facebook of one of his photos being published in DBP Magazine. COOL. :) now i wish i had some of my pictures published too, since I myself is a Photography Hobbyist.

IPhone 4 changes everything. Again. It is intelligently made not only for our everyday function, its so much more than a phone. It Changes the description of Communication.

Video Call (FaceTime Call) via Wi-Fi, this is more than communication, this is connection. Its Display is the highest and most advanced technology ever placed in a phone, the retina lens display, incredible in its level of details with LED Backlight making it more mind blowing with approximately x4 the pixels. What's more amazing in IPhone4, it canmultitask and it can even add a folder making it more personal. Plus it has a 5mp camera with videos and pictures that can be edited on the phone itself.

My Favorite part about Iphone besides its jaw dropping features is its beautiful classic design, making it simple yet so powerful and majestic. Its stainless steel is incredibly strong and remarkably precise added with a glass like sapphire crystal but 30x harder than plastic.

Every intense technology about this phone is because of Apple's new discovery, the A4 chip, it is very tiny yet so powerful, making Apple able to add a bigger battery eliminating the poor battery life of iPhone.

Looking at it makes me unable to believe that it's real.

Sony Nextep; The Computer of Tomorrow.

This is the FUTURE. Developed to be worn as a bracelet, this computer concept is constructed out of a flexible OLED touchscreen. Earmarked for the year 2020, features like a holographic projector (for screen), pull-out extra keyboard panels and social networking compatibility.

As a bracelet, it has the capability to change its color according to your fashion trend, despite of it's being small for a computer, sony has not failed to place everything there is to make it a computer, a pull out crystal keyboard panel + a holographic projector screen, and there you have it! computer needs just in your hands (literally)

This will be the biggest blow in technology in 10 years.

Serenity

Serenity.. a deep rooted fantasy that we all want to feel and experience..

We, at every point of our lives search for it, want to grab it, want to have it.. but is it that easy to have? is serenity within our reach?

Serenity, for me, is not found on what we don't have.. and on what we want to have.. its about something that we already have.. we have for so long that we continuously take it for granted for all the fantasies of everything that is not ours.. but the serenity that we all want to have is with us.. it has always been with us.. in us.. it is the inner peace that we often reject ourselves as we come to think about things that would make us anxious, jealous, and not content..

Branded Drugs Advertisements, not good!

It has been a long time trend of companies of using the television as their primary means of advertisement.. why i have nothing against it but i sure have something to say about advertisments on branded medicines.. I as a pharmacy student have come to the understanding that these branded drugs does not differ from the generic (with of course noted of the same bioequivalence) and it has been a usuall thinking of buying the branded ones becuase it has better effects.. and basing on the situation of our country today.. its the least that we need!

Philippines has one of the most expensive drugs in the world, it is but a good news to hear that our president has signed the bill of cheaper medicines act, in this way the market will be flooded with generic medicines.

Now, going back to advertisements.. come on.. think about it.. where do they get the money to pay these advertisements? of course! from the medicines that you purchase from them, thats what makes it expensive and such of an unreasonable price! they pay for the making of the advertisemnt, the ones in the advertisement and upon showing the advertisment on air, that wuld really cause a fortune! and not only that, these advertisements of the branded drugs causes misinformation and misleading the public into the belief that branded drugs have better potency that the generic drugs, thus brainwashing the public to buy their products which is unreasonably high..

Wake up Filipino’s! we are stabbed upfront! not only by our own Political leaders! but them of the foreginers, such oportunistic parasites.. we have to wake up and stand up against this, but i say NO TO VIOLENCE, YES TO INTELLIGENCE, let us act accordingly by using our intelligence and having straight with our rationale, let us move to ban these advertisements for fair thinking to the public and freedom to choose of what and which to buy..

Do not let these advertisements be your pharmacists, ask the real pharmacists! its better to be a fool once that to be a fool in a lifetime! Ignorance is not an excuse! do not be fooled by scams and misleading ads..

Exams exams exams

the sleepless nights.. the endless notes.. the stressful reading.. the exhausting manual deadlines... it is over! finally!

this is every students nightmare... this is the moment where you stare at the paper and wait for droplets to drop from your nose, this is where you eyes are hyperactive looking in all directions looking for answers.. this is the time where you feel like you head is going to explode.. this is the EXAM week!

now, exams are quite easy if you have studied, but the sad matter about it is that because of the many subjects, it is hard to manage all, and t consider the projects, requirements, and lab manuals before you can take the exams..

but when im thinking about it, i find it quite amusing.., because the exam week is actually the week where we learn all the lessons in a month in just an hour for the exams , :)

i must say, the brain is amazing, if you know how to use it. ;)

Prescription Dilemma

A dilemma of all pharmacists is the question of whether to dispense or not to dispense. Receiving of an incorrect, erroneous, violative, and whatever you call it prescription is a practice of what is becoming an everyday scenario.

Should a pharmacist allow the dispensation of a drug which prescription is with a brand name and no generic name? or the vice versa? Or worst a prescription with generic and brand names not matched, why is this happening? Is it because of the doctors that lacks of responsible act or a rapid significance of the eradication of the right practice proceeding to the common practice of the society?

Who should be forfeited with the right of practice? The doctors who lack of producing a correct prescription or the pharmacist who straightforwardly consider this unprofessional conduct and dispense the drugs?

I think this practice should be given a halt! This abuse is the cause of wrong dispensation of drugs, the cause of over/under dose and causes a major waste of money, time, and effort to the patient. Why give a limit on writing a correct prescription? Would it hurt if one would check on the MIMS to see the correct brand and generic name and eradicate the on going practice of dispensation with an incorrect prescription?

Blaming the pharmacist of this irregularity is not the precise thing to do for we are not the root of this anomaly, it is the doctors who effortlessly write this prescriptions leaving the scolding and questioning to the pharmacist.

This dilemma should be given a dot by us, the next generation of pharmacist; we can be of great change if together we set an ambition.

Scorching heat embraced us as we walked in the gymnasium in the UIC annex campus, there and then to see that the cheer dance competition has started. Almost half of the gym was occupied by the pharmacy department and those who willingly supported.

Noise is everywhere in the vicinity, unending shouts and yells for their departments and their bets on who would win the competition, and the KA-BOOM! Pharmacy was on deck, yells of the boisterous pharmacy got louder and louder, jumping, cheering, shouting, waving our balloons and flags as our show of support to the team. Aundrey dressed up “pharmaciously”, with all of her hair pointing upwards comes with a bouncy run then a full split! Then we heard it, the vigorous sound of the drums by Mr. Christopher Ian Peligrino, and there we heard their voice “hey pharmacy; say what?” fill it with the brisk way in of the cheer dancers, looking again, “pharmaciously” with a lavender cent of color and pompoms all the way! Cheers and shouts were strident, the music plays and pharmacy was on the go! With splits up high in the air, scorpion stunts and formations, it was a big bang! Inevitably the judges were stunned, who wouldn’t, it was the show for the day, everything went smooth and clean.

Soon after our wait the winner of the competition was to be announced, *drums rumbling* and our champion for this year 2006 cheer dance competition is the Pharmacy Program!

Mesura Pharmaceutico - Pharmacist's Dignity

A Laxity of duty as a pharmacist? A“do what the majority does” attitude? Or a problem of the poor?

Dispensing of the supposed to be a prescribed drug as an over the counter drug, this is, sad to say an on going happening in the community pharmacy.

For the sake of profit, many says as asked if why they dispense these drugs, allowing the dispensing Rx drugs as an OTC drug, such as antibiotics, contraceptive pills, etc. profit will of course be theirs, and of the consumer as well, because if they can buy these drugs as an OTC in this drugstore, why would the consumer even bother buying it on the other drugstores and hassling him/herself of getting a prescription form a doctor, this is a sad reality that becomes a normal practice for pharmacy.

Some say they’re just following as what all others do; they call it the “reality”. True as it may, this is a bad mark for pharmacist, being known by other pharmacist abroad by dispensing prescribed drug as an OTC drug, this is a bad image for those future pharmacist.

But what is the cause of this on going anomaly? Is it because of the increasing population of the poor? Whose family is composed of 5 or so, with a mother working as a vendor, and a father as a tricycle driver, garnering an income of P5, 000 or so, having a hard time feeding their children even afford going to a doctor and getting a prescription?

One’s laxity of duty is not only to be blamed only to him/her for it is not one’s fault to help lighten the weight that the poor is carrying by dispensing these Rx drugs as OTC, although aware that it is a good example, yet still helping the poor is the greater good of both. It is not also the fault of the poor that they are not anywhere capable of getting a correct prescription; having to do these malpractices may still not come to any end soon.

Now as the Pharmacy comes to realize its clinical potential and prove that it is more than just a retailer, pharmacist of the new generations should be a product of change and of innovation.
